Liverpool & Tottenham risk losing out on midfield target as rivals move for 25-year-old

Liverpool seem to be in risk of losing out on their latest midfield target to fierce rivals Everton.

Sky Sports understands that Ronald Koeman has made signing Newcastle United star Georginio Wijnaldum one of his summer priorities after a meeting with his transfer committee this week.

The Netherlands international appears to be a target for several Premier League clubs after Newcastle’s relegation to the Championship, which came despite 11 Wijnaldum goals in his debut season.

According to Sky Sports, Wijnaldum will cost around £25m – Newcastle paid £14.5m for his services 12 months ago – and The Mirror claims that both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are interested.

But Everton seem to have made the first move in the race for the 25-year-old, with Sky Sports reporting that the Toffees have made tentative inquiries to Wijnaldum’s representatives about a transfer.

Liverpool have already failed to secure deals for two of their primary midfield targets this summer – Piotr Zielinski of Napoli and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Mahmoud Dahoud, the Echo reports.
