Man United transfer news: €20m Van Gaal signing linked with Champions League return in La Liga side

A new Manchester United era began on Saturday as Jose Mourinho took charge of his first Red Devils match – a preseason friendly against Wigan.

But Mourinho has only been in the job for just under a month, so one suspects that he is far from done shaping his squad.

More ins and outs are expected at Old Trafford before the season starts for real in August and, according to Marca, Marcos Rojo is one player who could be on his way soon.

Marca report that Rojo – who the publication claim cost €20m when Louis van Gaal signed him from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 – is a transfer target for Villarreal.

Rojo, 26, still has three years on his contract, so United are keen to recoup as much of their €20m outlay as possible, so say Marca.

Villarreal could be a good move for Rojo. Last season’s Europa League semi-finalists will compete in the Champions League this term after finishing third in La Liga, behind only Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Rojo played in four Champions League games for United last term, before LVG’s men were relegated to the Europa League.
