Chelsea transfer news: Conte targets shock move for Premier League forward

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is believed to be targeting a surprise swoop on Premier League rivals Swansea City for forward Andre Ayew.

The Ghana captain joined Swansea on a free transfer last summer and scored 12 goals in 34 top-flight starts in an impressive debut campaign.

As The Sun reports, Sunderland showed an interest in him in January, but the Swans were determined to keep him while they were fighting relegation.

But he could now leave the Liberty Stadium and Chelsea are the shock club leading the race to sign him, with Conte on the lookout for attacking bargains.

Having already spent £33m on Michy Batshuayi from Marseille – fee confirmed by BBC Sport – Conte is reluctant to go big on any more forward players.

But The Sun understands that Ayew would only cost in the region of £12m, and the 26-year-old would certainly add some depth to Chelsea’s strike ranks.

Before moving to South Wales, Ayew was one of the most consistent attacking performers in Ligue 1, scoring 60 goals in 207 appearances for Marseille.
