Besiktas set to target Chelsea striker following Gomez departure

Germany international striker Mario Gomez has confirmed that he will not return to Besiktas next season due to the political instability in the country.

Gomez revealed the reason behind his decision not to return to Istanbul via his official Facebook account.

“The reason for this is completely down to the political situation,” the striker said on his Facebook page.

“There are no sporting or any other reasons that have made me make this decision. It is purely down to the terrible events that happened in the last few days.”

Besiktas are in pursuit of a replacement a source close to the club told Emre Sarigul and Chelsea forward Loic Remy is on the shortlist.

The Black Eagles are however, constrained by Financial Fair Play regulations and are currently under investigation.

The Istanbul giants have to ensure their revenue exceeds spending over the summer and will try to either loan Remy or sign the striker for the lowest transfer fee possible.

The Evening Standard also recently reported that the Black Eagles are targeting a move for the France international striker.

Per the source, Chelsea will allow Remy to leave over the summer if an attractive offer is made.
