Sam Allardyce appointed England manager: Twitter reaction to ‘Big Sam’ getting top job

The FA confirmed Sam Allardyce as the new England manager on Friday, with the former Sunderland boss ‘honoured’ to be appointed.

Following the disappointment of Euro 2016, the search for Roy Hodgson’s successor began immediately after elimination at the hands of Iceland.

After spending weeks scouring the options and assessing the individuals available, the FA have opted for Allardyce, with the 61-year-old bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the job.

While it seems a solid appointment in the sense that it’s arguably the best of the bunch available to take the job at this moment in time, many were unsurprisingly left underwhelmed by the decision.

It remains to be seen how his preferred style of play and man-management skills mesh with the England squad, but qualification for the 2018 World Cup will be the minimum short-term target for ‘Big Sam’ and his players.

Regardless, it didn’t stop a few from having some fun on Twitter, while others delivered a more serious verdict on the matter…
