Enigmatic former Manchester United starlet sparks rumours of Aston Villa switch

Ravel Morrison has sparked transfer speculation after following Aston Villa on Twitter, leading to suggestions he could be set for a move to the club.

The 23-year-old left Old Trafford in 2012, and issues over his attitude have seemingly followed him throughout his career thus far with spells at West Ham United, Birmingham City, QPR and most recently Lazio.

Morrison is still contracted to the Italian giants, but has failed to have the desired impact in Italy since arriving last year.

Having failed to establish himself in the first team, it appears as though the writing has been on the wall for some time, and his latest social media activity suggests that he’s got a new club in mind.

The England starlet has followed Villa on Twitter, and sent out a cryptic tweet which read: “Gone with the wind”.

It’s far from certain that a move to Villa Park is secured, but this isn’t the first time that the former United youth product has been linked with a move to the Championship outfit.

Roberto Di Matteo is looking to strengthen his squad where possible, having already added Pierluigi Gollini, Tommy Elphick and Aaron Tshibola to his team.

However, he still arguably needs more creativity in the final third and a proven goalscorer to fire them back up to the Premier League, and he may well believe that he’s found the solution to the first problem in Morrison.

There was a generally apprehensive reaction from Villa supporters on Twitter, as many appreciate that the midfielder is talented, but comes with baggage and question marks.

Nevertheless, if Di Matteo is able to tap into his potential and keep him on the right track, then perhaps it will be another smart move for Villa as they plot a way of securing immediate promotion back up to the Premier League.
