Chelsea transfer news: German heavyweights drop major hint at wideman switch but Blues staying silent

As far as German side Schalke are concerned, the signing of Chelsea defender Abdul Rahman Baba is a done deal.

The Bundesliga heavyweights revealed on their Twitter account on Monday that the left-back has joined in with the team’s training session, with a switch seemingly a formality.

“Abdul Rahman Baba is travelling with the Schalke squad to the training camp,” wrote the club on their @s04_en handle.

However, strangely, while the buying side have not been discreet about the potential move, Chelsea are yet to comment on the left-back’s potential departure from Stamford Bridge.

Baba only moved to West London last summer, joining Jose Mourinho’s then-champions from Bundesliga side Augsburg.

He made 23 appearances in all competitions last season—of which 15 were in the Premier League—but largely failed to unsettle first-choice left-back Cesar Azpilicueta.

When Baba did feature, he occasionally looked uncertain defensively, and seemingly hasn’t done enough to convince Antonio Conte that he can be a part of the club’s future as the Italian coach looks to take the Pensioners back to the title.

However, having previously featured for Greuther Furth and Augsburg, Baba will surely be hopeful that a return to German football can help him realise his potential.
