Emre Can has stated that he is keen to take on a leadership role at Liverpool this season.

During an interview with the Liverpool Echo the 22-year-old stated that he can be a leader like Jordan Henderson and James Milner.

However, Can went onto say he isn’t quite ready to take on the role of the Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

“I have played a lot of games for Liverpool now and know I am still young but I have to show it on the pitch now,” Emre Can was quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo

“I can say I am a leader but you have to show it. Of course we have other leaders like Hendo or Milner. We all want to do it.

“I am like that. I want to be the one pushing the team on of course. As I said I want to show that to everyone.”

Can had lunch with Seven Gerrard during his holiday in the United States. I met him in LA and we went for lunch. It’s always great to see Stevie,” Can told Liverpool FC.

Gerrard won the 2005 Champions League with Liverpool and is widely regarded as one of the most iconic players in the history of the club. Can recently revealed in the past he would love to become a world class player like Gerrard in the future.
