Liverpool take on Barcelona later today in what could be a classic as Jurgen Klopp looks to make final changes and tinkering with his starting XI at Wembley, in what is his side’s final International Champions Cup match.
With the new season now only a week away there’s not too much time left for the German manager to find his best eleven as Reds fans hope they can finally mount a serious title challenge, and they face a stern test of their title credentials with a trip to Arsenal a week Sunday, in what could be an already pivotal match.
Wembley is the venue for the match in what should be an intriguing contest, albeit a friendly match in what should bring in a bumper crowd of up to 90,000.
There have been additions to the Liverpool squad during the summer, with Gini Wijnaldum brought in from relegated Newcastle for £25m, while a few eybrows were raised with the addition of Sadio Mane from Southampton for a fee of around £34m.
Liverpool Team News
The attacking line up certainly looks in place with Divock Origi, Mane, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho ,Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturrudge all looking to fire Liverpool to a finish this season.
Defensively Liverpool could struggle, and will be without Mamadou Sakho, Joe Gomez and Lucas, while Joel Matip, Marko Grujic and Divock Origi could all feature having missed the Reds defeat to Roma last time out.
Barcelona Team News
A match against La Liga Champions Barcelona should prove a decent challenge for the Reds, who will come up against former players in Luis Suarez and Javier Mascherano, who should get a warm reception from Liverpool fans.
Lionel Messi will also make the trip to London.
Barcelona come into the game on the back of a 4-2 win over Premier League Champions Leicester City, having previously disposed of Celtic 3-1 and there’s little doubt that Luis Enrique’s men will want to continue their good form in the run up to the start of the La Liga this season, which also kicks off this month.
The two former Liverpool men could feature, as well as emerging talent in Arda Turan, Aleix Vidal, Denis Suarez, Sergi & Munir, the latter bagging two goals in the previous match against Leicester.
Liverpool vs Barcelona Match Odds
From a betting perspective, Barcelona are the overwhelming favourites at a price of around 4/7, but the better value should be with Liverpool, who can be backed at a price of around 5/1, which looks more than worthy of a speculative punt.
Enhancedodds.co.uk also mention that there’s 12/1 available on the Liverpool, which is a significant price boost.
After the match Liverpool will travel to Klopp’s former club Mainz, which will mark the end of the club’s pre season friendlies.
