Arsenal are facing an injury crisis ahead of their Premier League opener with Liverpool this weekend after defender Gabriel was stretchered off during a pre-season game.
The Brazil international was forced off with a leg injury in the closing moments of Arsenal’s 3-2 friendly victory over Manchester City on Sunday.
The injury appeared to be series as Gabriel was given oxygen as he was carried off the pitch.
“He’s in pain,” Arsene Wegner was quoted as saying by the Mirror.
“Let’s hope that the pain is not a sign of bad news.”
Wenger has major decisions to make going into the season opener with Per Mertesacker sidelined with a long-term injury and Laurent Koscielny yet to begin pre-season training. The France international was given an extended break after competing at Euro 2016.
Calum Chambers and new signing Rob Holding are currently Arsenal’s only fit senior centre-backs according to the Mirror.
Arsenal will also be without their star playmaker Mesut Ozil who was given an extended summer break after leading Germany to the semi-final’s of Euro 2016 where they were defeated by the hosts France.
