Sunderland stand to make £12m profit on star player following Everton bid

Everton are willing to bid £18 million for Sunderland star defender Lamin Kony according to the Express.

Per the source, recently appointed Sunderland manager David Moyes wants to keep hold of the defender but the club may be forced to listen to the Toffees offer.

Everton are not along in their pursuit of Kone with both Premier League champions and West Brom in the race but the Toffees are reported to be leading the race.

Sunderland are trying to block the move by offering the 27-year-old defender a new contract deal understood to be worth £70,000 per-week.

Kone joined the Black Cats on a £6 million move in January and played a key role in Sam Allardyce’s side that only just escaped relegation from the Premier League.

Sunderland would stand to make a £12 million profit just six months after signing the defender if the deal were to go through.

The Black Cats do have defensive cover after signing Papy Djilobodji from Chelsea for £8 million.
