Arsenal injury news: Gunners boss gives updates on five players, with timescales for all

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was bursting with Arsenal injury news this afternoon.

Speaking to the official club website, Wenger gave updates on five players.

First up was Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista, who Wenger says will be “out for six to eight weeks” with an ankle issue.

Talking of dodgy ankles, Jack Wilshere is said to be “doing well” but not well enough to play against Liverpool on Sunday.

On his side’s long-term absentees, Wenger revealed that right-back Carl Jenkinson should be back in November, while Per Mertesacker and Danny Welbeck both face a further four or five months on the sidelines.

After kicking off the new season at home to Liverpool this weekend, Arsenal face away trips to defending champions Leicester City and local rivals Watford.

Then comes the international break, before games against Southampton, Hull and a London derby with Chelsea.

Arsenal fared well in preseason, beating the MLS All-Stars, Guadalajara, Viking and Manchester City, after starting with a 1-1 draw against Lens.
