Stoke City accept defeat in persuit for Dutch star a year after he left Man Utd

The Premier League side Stoke City have admitted defeat in their pursuit of Robin van Persie from Fenerbahce according to the Turkish newspaper Sabah.

Per the source, Stoke City have given up on the former Arsenal striker and will pursue other targets.

The Netherlands international made the move to Fenerbahce from Manchester United last summer but has failed to cement a place in the startling line-up The daily Turkish paper states that Fenerbahce have no intention of selling Van Persie 12 months after signing him from United.

Van Persie won the Premier League with Manchester United following a controversial move from Arsenal. The 32-year-old provided three assists and found the back of the net 22 times in 48 appearances in all competitions for Fenerbahce last season.

Stoke City take on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in their opening game of the season this weekend.
