Turkish champions target Sunderland winger who scored just 3 goals last season

Besiktas are plotting a move for Sunderland winger Jermaine Lens according to NTV Spor pundit Guntekin Onay who is renowned for his close ties to Besiktas.

Speaking live on air the Turkish champions have added Lens to their shortlist as the club continues efforts to replace Gokhan Tore who signed for West Ham on a one-year loan.

Lens can also play as a forward which makes him even more attractive to Besiktas considering they are short of options upfront after Mario Gomez revealed he will not be returning to the club.

Lens joined the Black Cats from Dynamo Kiev last seasons on an £8 million move but did not have the most impressive of seasons scoring just three times and providing three assists.

Besiktas won the league title last season and would be able to offer Lens guaranteed Champions League group stage football this season if he were to join.

Lens faced an uncertain future going into the summer but he has been used in pre-season friendlies by recently appointed manager David Moyes.

The 28-year-old provided Lamine Kone with the equaliser in the recent 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund in a friendly.
