Star playmaker hands in Man Utd transfer request after dispute with Jose Mourinho

Juan Mata’s future at Manchester United looks to be uncertain after he handed in a transfer request according to TalkSport.

Per-the-source, the Spain international is unhappy with the way was treated by manager Jose Mourinho during United’s win over Leicester City in the Charity Shield last weekend.

Mata was surprisingly taken off after just 30 minutes after being brought on. According to the BBC, Mata was taken off ‘because he was the smallest player.’

The 28-year-old has however attracted the attention of several clubs. ESPN report that Everton are interested in signing Mata but the Toffees are likely to face competition from Fenerbahce according to the Turkish newspaper Milliyet.

The Istanbul giants are in pursuit of a new attacking midfielder to replace the likes of Diego Ribas and Luis Nani who left over the transfer window.

Mata provided 11 assists and scored 10 goals last term but has a frosty relationship with the recently appointed United boss. Mourinho previously sold Mata to United while he was in charge of Chelsea in 2014.
