Aston Villa turn to 17-goal Chelsea ace as Midlands outfit look to reverse spectacularly bad form

It turns out Aston Villa might not just have been an awful Premier League team…

They could well be crap in the Championship too.

Although the new season is only two games old for Villa, a 1-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday followed by a League Cup loss at Luton has already threatened to kill what little optimism remained.

But we should not be surprised. Villa lost 13 of their last 15 matches last season and they have not won a game since February.

They are not just a team who were relegated last season, they are a club in spectacularly bad form who need to do something big and fast in order to avoid sinking further into the abyss.

According to The Sun, Villa’s next move may be to go after Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford on a season-long loan, with the 22-year-old being targeted by manager Roberto Di Matteo.

Bamford would make total sense. Although he has yet to make his mark on the Premier League, he has proven Championship pedigree, having bagged 17 goals for Middlesbrough back in the 2014-15 season.

The Sun claim that another Villa target is Icelandic thrower Aron Gunnarrson, whose slung balls into the penalty area helped knock England out of Euro 2016.

According to the newspaper, Gunnarrson will be pursued if Villa fail to land Crystal Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak.
