Mesut Ozil has taken to social media to reminisce with Lukas Podolski about winning major trophies.

The Arsenal playmaker sent Podolski a message over Twitter following the Galatasaray forward’s decision to retire from the Germany national team.

Ozil has won just two FA Cups are club level since joining Arsenal from Real Madrid for a club record £42 million.

The Germany international uploaded a picture of himself alongside Podolski lifting the World Cup. Ozil included the following caption, “Do you remember, Podolski. We fought, suffered, laughed & won together. Thanks for everything.”

“I have told the Bundestrainer [Joachim Low] that I will no longer play for the national team. I will take things easier and devote myself to other things,” Podolski wrote on Instagram.

Podolski was the third highest goal scorer in German but hasn’t scored a goal for the national team in a competitive game in more than four years.

The 31-year-old was included in Joachim Low’s  Euro 2016 squad however, Podolski failed to break into the starting line-up.

Arseanl take on last seasons Premier League champions Leicester City this weekend as they look to bounce back from their 4-3 defeat to Liverpool  in the opening week.
