Liverpool transfer news: Serie A giants set sights on the Reds star

Liverpool’s star midfielder Lucas Leiva has been linked with a move to the Serie A according to the Daily Star.

The report states that Inter Milan are the latest side to be interested in signing the Brazil international this summer.

Lucas is currently the Red’s longest serving player having made 315 appearances for the Reds over the course of nine seasons ever since joining from Brazilian giants Gremio.

Galatasaray withdrew their offer for the Brazil international after Liverpool boss delayed the move according to the Daily Mail.

The Istanbul giants sporting director Levent Nazifoglu revealed that Lucas was on the verge of joining the club until Liverpool pulled the plug on the deal.

“We are no longer pursuing Lucas Leiva, we will continue efforts to sign alternative names instead,” Nazifoglu was quoted as saying by Turkish-football.com.

Lucas is currently recovering from a hamstring strain and missed the Reds opening game of the Premier League season. Liverpool beat Arsenal 4-3 at the Emirates but even if he was fit he would have been unlikely to play.
