Manchester United launch £30m move for Brazil Rio 2016 star linked with Premier League champions

Manchester United have reportedly launched a £30 million move for Brazilian youngster Gabriel Barbosa according to The Sun.

Per the source, United want to beat Leicester City’s bid for the 19-year-old Santos striker who has been setting the Rio Olympics alight.

The Foxes were reported to be favourites to land the Brazil international after beating off competition from Inter Milan, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.

The Red Devils are however, now favourites to sign Barbosa following their £30 million bid and a deal could be reached within the next 48 hours, as reported by The Sun.

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants Gabigol as his second striker alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic to complete his revolution at the club.

Gabriel, also known as ‘Gabigol’, scored twice against Denmark at the Olympics to inspire his nation to their first win of the tournament earlier this week.

Should United now complete a move for him, he would become their fifth summer signing as Mourinho has already strengthened significantly with the acquisitions of Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba.

In contrast, it would be a blow for Claudio Ranieri if he were to miss out on the Brazilian ace after seemingly moving into a strong position to sign him.

Nevertheless, the Premier League champions already have various attacking options with Ahmed Musa making his debut alongside Jamie Vardy at the weekend.
