Arsenal pursuit of top target over as €100m release clause comes with new €4.5m-per-year deal

After being linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, Inter striker Mauro Icardi is seemingly on the verge of putting pen-to-paper on a new deal with the Serie A giants.

The Argentine forward took to Instagram on Sunday to show his commitment to the cause as the Nerazzurri prepare to get their Serie A campaign underway.

Frank de Boer’s men take on Chievo on Sunday night, and Icardi is seemingly all-set to play a leading role in their pursuit of success this year.

“A new year begins with new goals, but always the same feeling for the last three years with this shirt. And for many more years,” his caption read, as seen below.

While that’s enough to suggest that he may well be ready to commit his future to Inter, Sky Sport Italia expert Gianluca Di Marzio has added further details to the situation which suggest that the 23-year-old will receive the new contract offer that he was seeking.

The new deal is reportedly worth €4.5m per season plus bonuses and runs until 2021, and there is also a suggestion that a new release clause will be inserted into the agreement worth something between €100m and €110m which only applies to clubs outside of Italy.

If true, that will certainly end any interest from Arsenal with Arsene Wenger, or any other Premier League manager for that matter, unlikely to splash out on the former Sampdoria man.

In turn, it will force the Gunners to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements, while there is also the requirement of bringing in another defender after both Per Mertesacker and Gabriel both picked up long-term injuries in pre-season which will likely see the budget split.
