The EFL Cup returns tonight with a host of mouth watering ties to get stuck into, and with 15 Premier League sides in action this week the midweek football coupon just got a whole lot better with plenty of games to take in.
Chelsea shouldn’t have too much trouble in dispatching Bristol Rovers at Stamford Bridge as they entertain the League One outfit. Darrell Clarke’s Rovers have had a mixed start to their campaign winning only one of their four games so far, and with Antonio Conte slowly rebuilding a winning mentality at the Bridge, the 1/5 on the home win speaks volumes.
Liverpool could face a tricky trip to Championship newcomers Burton, with Nigel Clough’s side have had two good successive results, beating Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 and securing a 2-2 defeat at Ewood Park against Blackburn on Saturday.
The Reds have had difficulty in past seasons overcoming lower leagued opposition in the Cup and tonight’s tie could have a similar feel. Few will be backing the Burton home win at 8/1 but the 4/5 available with a two goals headstart looks well worthy.
Swansea face a difficult trip to Peterborough with Guidolin’s side making a less than inspiring start to their Premier League campaign, but the Swans still look a decent bet to progress tonight. Grant McCann’s Posh look a decent outfit this year, but surely the 11/10 on the away win cannot be passed up. When was the last time a Premier League side was odds against to beat a League One side?
Mark Hughes’s Stoke side shouldn’t have too much of a problem in disposing of League Two Stevenage, while Alan Pardew will be hoping for a little more luck in front of goal as his Crystal Palace side face Blackpool.
The Eagles have yet to score in the Premier League, and the arrival of a struggling Blackpool side looks like the perfect opportunity to get off the mark.
Ronald Koeman’s Everton should be well fancied to see off Yeovil, while Watford could take advantage of a Gillingham side which were thumped 5-0 by Scunthorpe on the weekend.
West Brom could find things a little difficult as they visit Northampton, with Rob Page’s side yet to be defeated in League One.
Tony Pulis has a history of making significant changes to his sides in the early stages of cup compteitions, and the 3/1 on offer on the Northampton home win will surely tempt a few.
Its all set to be a busy night of fixtures, just make sure you don’t miss a kick.
