Liverpool injury news: Jurgen Klopp issues update on Emre Can injury

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has issued an update on Emre Can following the 22-year-old’s injury he picked up during the Red’s League Cup clash with Burton.

Can was forced off the field midway though the second half due to an ankle injury during Liverpool’s 5-0 victory. It was the Germany international’s first start of the season after starting on the bench for the opening two Premier League encounters.

“He had a little pain in his ankle without any touch – I couldn’t see any contact. It was a long leg, then a little bit floppy and then he had pain,” Klopp told Liverpool’s official website.

“But it is not that serious. It’s not that big [of a] pain anymore, but it’s the ankle he had problems with at the end of last season, so he’s a little bit worried.

“Hopefully it’s nothing too serious.”

The Germany international missed the Premier League Burnley clash last weekend with a minor back injury and had yet to reach 100 percent match fitness. Klopp could be without his star midfielder for the trip to White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham on the weekend as a result.

Liverpool are already in the midst of an injury crisis and would be in trouble going into the Tottenham game with Can sidelined as well.
