Chelsea FC sign 33-year-old who has won two league titles and Euro 2016 in last two seasons

Chelsea FC have signed experienced stopper Eduardo Carvalho from Dinamo Zagreb.

The 33-year-old, who won back-to-back league titles with Dinamo and was part of the Portugal squad that won Euro 2016, becomes Chelsea third major summer signing, after Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante.

Eduardo will likely provide back-up to Chelsea goalkeepers Thibaut Courtois and Asmir Begovic, much like Marco Amelia did last season.

Former AC Milan keeper Amelia did not get a single minute of game time during his one and only season at Stamford Bridge.

Although Eduardo is unlikely to feature very often in Antonio Conte’s first team, Blues fans should not be worried if he is called upon.

Eduardo is a very competent keeper whose previous clubs include Braga, Genoa and Benfica.

Chelsea kept just nine clean sheets in the Premier League last season, fewer than Stoke City, Everton, West Ham United, Watford and West Bromwich Albion.

Conversely, Eduardo starred in a Dinamo defence that conceded just 19 goals in 36 league games last term.
