Arsenal still interested in £85.5m Antoine Griezmann after summer transfer talks, despite £17.1m Lucas Perez arrival

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger reportedly held summer transfer talks with Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.

Wenger conversed with his fellow Frenchman during Euro 2016, according to The Sun, who claim that the player told the Arsenal boss that he did not want to leave Spain.

The Gunners have since moved on – for now – and are very close to confirming the arrival of Lucas Perez from Deportivo for £17.1m, per Sky Sports.

However, The Sun quote a source as saying that Arsenal remain interested in Griezmann, even though their chances of signing the 25-year-old during the current transfer window are nonexistent.

Griezmann followed up a fine 2015-16 season, which saw him score 22 La Liga goals, by winning the Golden Boot at the European Championships this summer.

He has yet to find the net this term, after Atletico were held to a 0-0 draw in their season-opener at Leganes yesterday.

As is customary in Spain, Griezmann has a release clause in his contract. The Sun say the value of that clause is £85.5m.
