Chelsea ace linked with exit but reliable transfer guru ridiculed with Antonio Conte desperate to add defenders not lose them

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has been linked with a loan move to Schalke, although it’s highly unlikely that such a deal would go through.

The 21-year-old has returned to training after suffering a serious injury last season, and will hope to recover and regain full fitness to push for a place in Antonio Conte’s starting line-up this season.

With the Italian desperately looking to add a defender to his squad ahead of the transfer deadline given the lack of depth he has in that department, an exit for Zouma would make no sense.

However, according to Sky Sport Italia expert Gianluca Di Marzio, ‘negotiations’ are underway over a possible loan move to Schalke with an option to buy.

Given the position that Chelsea are currently in, unless Conte has an imminent signing or two to welcome to Stamford Bridge, it’s a little difficult to believe that he would give the green-light for Zouma to leave.

With just John Terry and Gary Cahill as his two senior centre-halves, it would be a risk to let the Frenchman depart without having others coming in the opposite direction to add depth and quality with Chelsea looking to compete on various fronts this season even without European football.

That’s a fact that hasn’t been lost on some Chelsea supporters, who have questioned the latest report from the transfer guru with doubts over why the Premier League giants would consider such a deal.

If there is truth in the report, then not only does Di Marzio deserve an apology from those doubting its authenticity, but question marks and alarm bells will be raised at Stamford Bridge over their defensive options, or lack of, for the next few months.
