French football expert slams new Chelsea signing as fans left worried by damning assessment

Chelsea supporters will be left concerned after French football expert Julien Laurens has insisted that David Luiz is a ‘worse player than when he left’.

The Brazilian international left Stamford Bridge for Paris Saint-Germain in 2014, but it’s taken just two years for the 29-year-old to now return to the Premier League.

While the Ligue 1 champions have taken a loss on the money spent and then recouped, it sounds as if they were keen to offload Luiz once the offer from Chelsea was made, according to Laurens.

Luiz’s determination and commitment undoubtedly made him a favourite with supporters during his first stint in west London, and he will likely bring that same level of passion with him this time round.

However, there are still question marks over his footballing ability, namely his defensive work, and it’s certainly a surprise that Antonio Conte has opted to bring him in.

The Italian tactician probably doesn’t want to listen to Laurens’ take on Luiz, as can be heard in the tweet below when he spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live, and time will tell as to whether or not Chelsea have made an expensive mistake.

Given that Laurens has seen Luiz play week in and week out in France over the last two years, it’s probably wise to heed his warning and so it remains to be seen how Conte goes about improving the Brazilian’s game and ensuring that he doesn’t return and become a liability for his team.
