Manchester United transfer News: Red Devils line up £85m France international as Wayne Rooney replacement

Despite the transfer window ending earlier this week, Manchester United have already begun their transfer plans for 2017.

According to the Bleacher Report, Manchester United are looking into the possibility of signing Antoine Griezmann as long-term replacement for Wayne Rooney.

The Sun state that Rooney’s career is beginning to decline, 14 years after he debuted as a youngster with Everton. The England international’s position is also under threat following the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Griezmann was a wanted man this summer after scoring six goals during Euro 2016 for the France national team. According to the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo,  Atletico Madrid are unwilling to let go of their star asset for anything under his £85 million release clause.

Rooney did however provide the assist for United’s winning goal against Hull city last weekend and is still the captain of the Red Devils.

United take on their bitter rivals Manchester City in their next Premier League fixture on September 10.
