(Video) Lionel Messi’s insane nutmeg and superb solo goal lights up Argentina comeback in Uruguay win

Lionel Messi returned to Argentina duty on Thursday as he scored the winning goal in his side’s 1-0 win over Uruguay in Mendoza.

The Barcelona superstar had announced his retirement from international football after further Copa America heartbreak earlier this summer, but he opted to reverse his decision and come back for the Albiceleste.

Aside from his wonderful individual effort to win the game, he also produced this brilliant piece of skill to thrill the home crowd as the hosts hung on for the victory despite seeing Paulo Dybala sent off on the stroke of half-time.

Messi scored his 56th goal for his country when he controlled the ball just outside the box, and as the Uruguay defenders backed off, it created a bit of space for the Barca magician who saw his effort deflected into the back of the net.

Luis Suarez was starved of any real service during the game and was unable to drag his side back into it, with Argentina claiming an important win over their rivals.

Edgardo Bauza’s men now sit top of the qualifying standings with 14 points from their seven matches so far, a point above Uruguay, Colombia and Ecuador.

Meanwhile, Brazil sit in fifth place with 12 points, as they look to pick up another win next Tuesday when they face Colombia after defeating Ecuador 3-0 on Thursday night.

However, there was no denying Messi’s moment in the limelight as Argentina will undoubtedly be thrilled by his decision to return to play for his country.
