Jose Mourinho heralded as ‘mastermind’ as his influence convinced Manchester United summer signing to move to England

Manchester United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic has revealed that Jose Mourinho was the main reason as to why he chose to move to the Premier League this summer.

The 34-year-old had a difficult decision to make with his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expiring, as he had various opportunities to pick from.

Despite interest from Italy from former club AC Milan, the Swede ultimately opted for a reunion with his former boss, and has again reiterated the role Mourinho played in convincing him the right move was to join United.

“I was close two times to moving to the Premier League, once with Arsenal and then Manchester City,” he told reporters. “But it never happened and I don’t need to play in the Premier League.

“He [Mourinho] is the mastermind, the master brain. He knows what he needs to do to win. I learned a lot from him at Inter. Who wouldn’t want to have Mourinho as manager?”

It seems as though the move is already paying off given that Ibrahimovic scored the winning goal in the Community Shield encounter with Leicester City last month, before adding three goals in three Premier League games to leave United sitting joint top of the table ahead of the international break.

As he continues to silence his detractors who questioned his ability to be successful in England, it appears as though he makes the perfect duo with Mourinho, as the pair plot their way to further silverware this season.

Ibrahimovic and United return to action next weekend, when they face an old foe in Pep Guardiola in the first Manchester derby of the new season. Their influence is already being felt at Old Trafford, but it remains to be seen if it ends with the ultimate goal of winning trophies.
