Jose Mourinho wasting no time as £15m move already lined up for Manchester United January transfer window target

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly already preparing a £15m move for Monaco right-back Fabinho for the January transfer window.

It was well documented that the Brazilian was a reported transfer target for the Portuguese tactician this summer, but a deal wasn’t done as he remains with the Ligue 1 outfit.

The fact that Monaco will feature in the Champions League this season may well have swayed his decision, but according to the Daily Express, his resolve in staying in France will be tested again in January with Mourinho re-visiting his interest in his former Real Madrid starlet.

According to the report, United believe that they can sign him for around £15m, with Mourinho eyeing a reunion after acquiring the right-back during his time in the Spanish capital.

The Red Devils shelled out around £145.3m in the summer on Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract wouldn’t have been cheap, as noted by The Express.

In turn, that investment has helped them rack up three wins in as many Premier League games to start the campaign, as Mourinho looks like he’s ready to lead them to a legitimate title push.

Adding more new faces in January could be key in maintaining that momentum, and the defence is certainly an area that the former Chelsea boss was keen to strengthen, if reports ahead of the transfer deadline were to be believed.

Antonio Valencia has undoubtedly been doing an excellent job on the right flank so far this season, and so a replacement for him would seem harsh.

However, Mourinho will be looking at the long-term future too, and he evidently sees Fabinho as the man to fill that role in the years to come.
