England beat Slovakia 1-0 in their opening 2018 World Cup qualification game at the City Arena Trnava on Sunday and two players set a record in the process.

Adam Lallana scored his first goal for England to bag the winner and Wayne Rooney broke the all time record for out-field players caps.

The Manchester United star earned his 116th cap for England in the win over Slovakia, putting him ahead of former United star David Beckham who held the previous record.

Only goalkeeper Peter Shilton, with 125 caps, now stands ahead of the United man.

Sky Sports shared an image on their official twitter account listing the top give England players in terms of their caps for the national team.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard follows Rooney and Beckhan with 114 caps. Bobby Moore meanwhile had 108 caps and Ashley Cole was fifth on the list with 107 caps for England.

There were concerns over Rooney’s England future after Euro 2016 but he has vowed to play on.
