An Argentinian referee Silvio Ruiz was rushed to hospital in an ambulance after being punched by a player he sent off.
The extraordinary event took place during a clash between Atletico Quilmes and their rivals Sportivo Norte.
The referee attack was caught on camera and shows the Atletico Quilmes defender Leonardo Vera unleashing a vicious punch on the unsuspecting official. Vera had to be held back by three of his teammates to stop him inflicting more damage.
The referee subsequently cancelled the match and walked off to receive treatment.
