Neymar agent explains how Barca star almost joined Man United this summer, only to snub pay-jump Red Devils move

Barcelona star Neymar almost joined Manchester United this summer before signing a new contract at the Camp Nou according to his agent.

Wagner Ribeiro explained the situation, saying that PSG and United were both very close to landing the Brazil captain before he penned a new Barca deal until the summer of 2021.

Ribeiro also revealed that Neymar’s new contract with Barca is less lucrative than the offer put forward by Old Trafford chiefs.

“He (Neymar) was close to joining PSG,” Ribeiro is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. “He would have earned €40m a year net.

“Neymar was also close to a spell at Manchester United, but he extended his contract to earn less at Barcelona because he wanted to stay at Barcelona.”

At 24, Neymar presumably has another full decade of playing at the highest level ahead of him.

He has been on the books at Barca since 2013 when he arrived from Santos.

Neymar has won a whole host of team honours in the past three years.

He was won two La Liga titles, two Copa de Reys, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup with Barca, as well as the Confederations Cup and an Olympic gold medal with his country.
