Manchester United fell to a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday, but there were some unsavoury scenes outside the ground prior to kick-off.
Tension was high ahead of the game, not least due to the heated rivalry between the two clubs and the fact that Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola were reigniting their old feud in a showdown labelled the ‘most expensive game ever’.
In turn, it’s arguably no surprise that there was trouble before the game as fans clashed as seen in the videos below.
Prior to the game it had been reported that a 400-strong police contingent had been briefed on all the sub-plots surrounding the game, and in their defence, sirens can be heard near the end of the clips as they wasted little time in arriving at the situation and preventing further problems from taking place.
Nevertheless, it’s unfortunate to see stuff like this even though it’s a very small group of individuals causing trouble.
Wouldn’t be a derby day without a bit of trouble. pic.twitter.com/P8QZQA2TCy
