Chelsea defender John Terry has confirmed that he will miss his side’s encounter with Liverpool on Friday night as a result of the ankle injury he picked up at the weekend.

The 35-year-old took to Instagram to reveal the news that he had strained ankle ligaments which will see him sit out for 10 days.

In his absence, David Luiz is now likely to get the nod to partner Gary Cahill in the heart of the Chelsea defence, with the Brazilian international set to make his second debut for the club having left for Paris Saint-Germain two years ago.

As for Terry though, he was clearly devastated by the news, as after sustaining the knock in the draw with Swansea City on Sunday, he was only able to have scan on Tuesday due to swelling.

The results revealed the extent of the damage, and he will now likely also miss the EFL Trophy game against Leicester City next Tuesday, while his participation against Arsenal on September 24 will also be in doubt depending on how he heals.
