Tottenham Hotspur have continued their recent policy of putting faith in homegrown talent by handing a five-year contract to young midfielder Harry Winks.

Twenty-year-old Winks, from Hemel Hempstead, only has one minute of Premier League experience to date, having made his top-flight debut as a late sub in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool last month.

However, Winks made his first-team Spurs debut way back in November 2014 as he came off the bench in a 1-0 Europa League win over Partizan Belgrade.

In total, he has now made four appearances – all as a second-half sub and all at White Hart Lane.

Winks will be hoping for more minutes when Spurs host Sunderland on Sunday.

With Mauricio Pochettino likely to rotate his squad in the League Cup, Winks may then be in with a chance of making his first Spurs start next Wednesday when Gillingham come to North London.
