Man United scout La Liga starlet as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster leaky defence

Manchester United have only kept clean sheets in two of their six matches under Jose Mourinho.

And, according to The Mirror, the Red Devils boss is now keen to bolster his backline.

The Mirror report that Man United sent a scout to Holland on Tuesday night to watch Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez help his side grind out a 1-0 win over PSV in matchweek 1 of the Champions League group phase.

Atletico have one of the best defences in Europe – they have only conceded once in five games this term – and Gimenez is a big reason for why they are so strong.

The Mirror add that United are not the only side who are watching Gimenez but that the Old Trafford club are keen on doing more than just looking.

Per the national newspaper, United are checking out the 21-year-old with a view to making a bid.

Despite being four months shy of his 22nd birthday, Gimenez is vastly experienced and has already represented Uruguay over 20 times at senior international level.
