Manchester United transfer news: Real Madrid superstar offered ‘major role’ by Jose Mourinho as Red Devils close in on playmaker

While the transfer window may have ended last month, Manchester United transfer news never seems to stop rolling.

According to Don Balon (via the Manchester Evening News), United have set their sights on Real Madrid’s out-of-favour Colombian superstar James Rodriguez.

The report states that the Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is keen on signing a playmaker in January and has offered Rodriguez a “major role” in his team.

Rodriguez has found hisself on the fringes of Madrid’s squad following the appointment of Zinedine Zidane. The 25-year-old rejected a move to the Serie A giants Inter Milan in the last transfer window.

However, signing Rodriguez could prove to be problematic following a transfer ban imposed on Real Madrid from UEFA. The La Liga giants will be unable to replace the Colombia international if he departs in January.

Man United have lost their last three games in a row and will be looking to bounce back when they take on Northampton in the League Cup on Wednesday.
