Liverpool boss gives star midfielder injury update

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed the latest injury status of star midfielder Emre Can.

Klopp was quoted as saying on the official Liverpool website that Can is match fit and has returned to training.

Can has struggled for playing time following his injury during the League Cup clash against Burton Albion last month.

The Germany international has made a full recovery but Klopp has not confirmed whether Can will feature against Derby County in the League Cup game this evening.

“Emre’s in training and when he’s in training then he’s available,” said Klopp.

“He was last week in training but we took him to the side to do some specific work because he didn’t have a proper pre-season, and now with injuries then he’s not been available for three or four weeks. It [the game at Burton] was not yesterday, that’s for sure.

“He’s available and now he can collect match time. How much, if he starts or not [against Derby] – no decision until now.”

Can could make his return against Hull City in the Premier League next week. The Reds will be hoping to extend their winning streak to three games after beating Leicester City and Chelsea in the league.

The 22-year-old midfielder has one assist in two appearances for the Reds in all competitions this season.

The powerful midfielder is expected to feature alongside captain Jordan Henderson in central midfield when he makes his return.
