It has been an eventful week for the Rangers bad-boy Joey Barton and things could yet take a turn for the worse.
According to the Daily Star, the Gambling Commission are looking into reports that the former England international placed a bet on Celtic to suffer a heavy defeat to Barcelona last week.
Celtic succumbed to a 7-0 loss at the hands of the La Liga giants Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League last Tuesday.
However, the Scottish FA has a strict no-betting policy on football games.
The report goes onto state that if Barton is found to be guilty, he may face a ban. However, the report also says that the 34-year-old is unlikely to face ‘major punishment ‘ if it is a one off event.
Barton has already been suspended from Rangers following a training ground altercation. The combative midfielder has been told to stay away from the club for a further three weeks.
