Sunderland boss David Moyes reveals why Van Aanholt was withdrawn from Tottenham clash

Sunderland boss David Moyes has revealed why Patrick Van Aanholt was removed from the starting line-up during pre-match preparations.

The Netherlands international was bizarrely told he will not be playing against Tottenham just 40 minutes before Sunday’s 1-0 defeat. Interestingly, it was Jason Denayer who relayed the news to Van Aanholt who looked surprised with the decision.

However, Moyes has revealed that Van Aanholt was withdrawn following ‘cardiological tests’, which the club were informed about by the FA 35 minutes before kick-off according to the Daily Mail.

Sunderland are yet to win a game under the former Manchester United and Everton manager David Moyes.

The Black Cats take on Queens Park Rangers in the League Cup tomorrow evening before hosting Crystal Palace at the Stadium of Light this weekend in the Premier League.

Van Aanholt played a key role in keeping Sunderland in the Premier League last season. The 26-year-old left-back scored five League goals last season and already has a goal to his name this term.
