Michael Carrick has shown Wayne Rooney how to stick the ball in the back of the net on his first appearance for United since the Community Shield.
The opening goal of the night came from an indirect free-kick inside Northampton’s box. Rooney’s strike went straight into the wall while Carrick’s long range effort moments after found the back of the net.

United went into the break level after Northampton scored a penalty late in the first half.
