Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has stated that he is willing to fight to remain at Old Trafford.

Rooney made a special appearance on MUTV’s Thursday Focus show to respond to the fan and media criticism he has been receiving.

The experienced striker also hit back at his critics stating that a lot of what is said about him ‘is rubbish.’

“I listen to my coaches and my team-mates, the people around me, and I don’t really listen to what a lot of people out there are saying because a lot of it is rubbish,” Rooney stated on MUTV.

“I have to focus, work hard, of course, and I’ve done that throughout my career. I’ve worked hard and tried to do my best for the team.”

Rooney has been harshly criticised by both United fans and football pundits this season following a slow start to the season.

The 30-year-old has scored just one goal in seven games so far. Rooney has been far from his best and Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho gave him a chance to regain some confidence against League One opposition in the EFL Cup.

However, Rooney was yet again disappointing and even missed an open goal early on, despite United winning 3-1.

The Red Devils take on last seasons Premier League champions Leicester City this weekend.
