Chelsea captain John Terry will miss his side’s encounter with Arsenal on Saturday as he has failed to recover in time from his ankle injury.
The 35-year-old suffered the setback in the 2-2 draw with Swansea City on September 11, and has been sidelined since having missed the games against Liverpool and Leicester City in the Premier League and EFL Cup respectively.
Although it was initially claimed by the club that he would be out for 10 days, Antonio Conte has confirmed that his influential leader won’t be available for the game this weekend.
“Terry didn’t recover for this game. I don’t know when he will be back,” the Italian coach told the media at his press conference on Friday.
“We have three centre backs and it’s normal to have to make a choice when you are at a club like Chelsea. It’s not a problem.”
It may well turn out to be a problem as Chelsea have kept just one clean sheet so far this season, and face an in-form Arsenal side looking to build on their recent momentum.
Terry took to Instagram just a couple of hours before Conte began his press conference, leaving this thoughtful post which suggested that he may well have been disheartened after being ruled out of the game.
David Luiz is likely to deputise again, as Chelsea look to pick up their first league win in three outings.
