Sunderland team news: Man United loanee out for six weeks with ligament damage

The Belgium international midfielder Adnan Januzaj has been ruled out for six weeks after suffering an ankle injury.

Januzaj sustained the injury during Sunderland’s disappointing 3-2 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace last weekend. A scan following the game has revealed that he has suffered ankle ligament damage.

The 21-year-old is expected to miss the Black Cats upcomming fixtures against West Brom, Stoke and Bournemouth.

Januzaj has been one of Sunderland’s few bright sparks this term. The flamboyant midfielder has scored once for Sunderland in seven appearances this season and received a red card during his sides clash with Tottenham earlier this month.

The Belgium international joined Sunderland from Manchester United on a season-long loan over the summer. Januzaj enjoyed his best spell in the Premier League under David Moyes, while he was United boss three seasons ago.

Sunderland – who are without a win this season – take on West Brom in the Premier League this weekend.
