Jose Mourinho looks lower down Premier League for budget Manchester United reinforcements

Manchester United were shopping at the top table this summer, signing players like Paul Pogba, Henrik Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for enormous fees and even bigger wages.

But with those big names in place, it seems that Jose Mourinho is looking further down the Premier League for his next wave of reinforcements. According to The Mirror, the Manchester United manager has his eye on Jose Fonte, Southampton’s Portuguese centre back, to improve his team even further.

The paper claims that Fonte is avoiding signing a new deal at the South coast club in order to facilitate a move to Old Trafford in the near future. It reports that the Saints are “desperate” to keep the player, who has been with them since 2010, making over 250 appearances across all competitions.

The former Crystal Palace defender had an outstanding Euros in France, winning the competition with Portugal.

Mourinho was linked with Fonte all through the summer, and he looks close to getting his man as the defenders contract runs down. Unless Southampton make a serious offer, the 32-year-old could be Eric Bailly’s new partner in defence at Old Trafford.
