Over the years Manchester United have had their fingers burnt when it comes to signing Brazilian footballers.

Anderson, Fabio, Rafael, Kleberson and Andreas Pereira are the five who United have tried so far.

And, in general, these Samba Boys have failed at Old Trafford.

But United appear ready to go again and have taken 16-year-old Brazilian wonderkid Matheus Marcosi on trial, according to the Daily Mail.

The same source reports that Marcosi – who can play in defence or midfield – has trained with United before, but that he is hoping to earn himself a contract during this spell at Carrington this week.

This week is a busy one for United’s first team, who kickstarted their season with a 4-1 win over Leicester City last Saturday. United host Zorya in the Europa League tonight, before taking on Southampton at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Marcosi is obviously not eligible to play in those games, but the Brazilian trialist could feature for one of United’s junior sides this weekend.
