Jose Mourinho lining up January move for 22-year-old which could solve Man United midfield issue

Man United are reportedly considering a move for Monaco defensive midfielder Timeoue Bakayoko in the January transfer window.

Jose Mourinho has made several changes in midfield this season, with the likes of Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Morgan Schneiderlin and Michael Carrick all featuring with Paul Pogba the consistent presence.

Critics will point out that United still lack balance in that area of the field, while it also limits Pogba’s influence from an offensive point of view when playing him that deep in the team.

The French international will be a constant in the United line-up this season, but it will be crucial for Mourinho to find the right man to play alongside him to offer his side a sense of continuity and solidity.

According to The Sun, the Portuguese tactician could be about to add another defensive midfielder to his squad with Bakayoko currently the top target for the Red Devils.

However, if United are keen on adding the French Under-21 international to their squad, they will have to fend off interest from the likes of Juventus, West Brom, Stoke City and Southampton, according to the report.

It’s added by The Sun that the Serie A giants watched Bakayoko three times this summer and so naturally given their keenness on signing him, they are considered the favourites at this stage.

Nevertheless, United’s reported interest is a possible game-changer given their standing and the opportunity to play in the Premier League, and with the midfielder gaining Champions League experience this season he will hope to continue to impress on the big stages.

Bakayoko has made 11 appearances so far this season, including in the clash with Tottenham in Europe last month, having featured in 36 league outings for Monaco since joining the club from Rennes in 2014.
