Liverpool defender reveals touching story that shows different side to Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp celebrates a year at Liverpool on Saturday, and Reds defender Dejan Lovren has revealed a wonderful story about the 49-year-old as part of the celebration of the anniversary.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss had a memorable opening campaign at Anfield, although it was a disappointing one too in terms of falling short in the Europa League and League Cup finals.

Nevertheless, Liverpool have started this season well as they sit in fourth place in the Premier League after seven games, with Klopp undoubtedly hoping that they can continue to make progress in the coming weeks and months.

While the eccentric tactician is known for his witty and humourous lines in interviews and press conferences, while his passionate touchline antics have certainly entertained many over the last 12 months, Dejan Lovren has revealed another brilliant side to Klopp.

The Croatian international’s daughter was ill in February, and despite the fact that Liverpool were scheduled to face Augsburg in the Europa League around the same time, Lovren was given permission to travel home and be with his family.

“I will never forget he gave me a couple of days off when I had a problem with my daughter and she was ill and in hospital. She needed an operation,” he told The Express.

“It was at the time of the Augsburg game away in February and he said to me, ‘Go to Croatia. Be with your daughter’. These things are big for a player. He showed his personality then.”

Klopp is undoubtedly fiercely competitive when it comes to the success of his team, but this was a brilliant gesture from him to put things into perspective and it clearly won’t be something that Lovren forgets any time soon.
