Chelsea star to be subject of January raid from big-spending Italian giants

AC Milan will reportedly make an audacious bid to sign Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi in the January transfer window despite his recent arrival in west London.

The Belgian international only joined the Premier League outfit this past summer, but has struggled to displace Diego Costa in the starting line-up.

Batshuayi has in fact made an impressive impact when he has featured, scoring three goals in seven appearances in all competitions, although his five Premier League outings have all come from off the bench.

According to The Sun, Milan could be about to test Chelsea’s resolve with a significant offer in January as they expect to see a Chinese consortium complete their takeover of the club and provide a sizeable transfer war-chest for coach Vincenzo Montella to immediately strengthen his squad.

Batshuayi’s argument for a place in the Chelsea starting line-up is combatted by the fact that Costa has been in great form so far this season, as he currently leads the Premier League goalscoring charts with six goals.

Nevertheless, the former Marseille man would have undoubtedly expected to play more often for Chelsea after his move to England this summer, and it will be a major disappointment for him to have spent much of the campaign on the bench thus far.

With Chelsea pushing for silverware domestically this season, the Belgian ace will get his chances as the season progresses, but he’ll be under pressure to deliver when he does otherwise he will face the harsh reality of being Costa’s back-up for a lot longer than he would like.

In turn, it remains to be seen whether or not a move to Serie A appeals to him, but then again it would be another tough situation for him there with an in-form Carlos Bacca currently leading the Rossoneri up front.
